On Thursday, 1 September, at 9.00 am, The Beaverwood Club in Chislehurst, will be featured in the BBC programme ‘Marrying Mum & Dad’.
The series, which is screened on the CBBC channel, is a bit like a children’s version of ‘Don’t Tell the Bride’ – only it’s the kids who make all the big decisions about their parent’s wedding day; they choose everything, from the theme to the venue, entertainment and outfits – the parents don’t have a say in it!
At the Beaverwood we get many enquiries for functions, events and weddings, but hosting a wedding for this programme sent a wave of excitement through the office. We had been chosen as we offer a spacious function room with loads of facilities and lots of space for all the gear. But it all had to be kept secret – no mention of it on social media, talking to the press, or telling the locals!
As the Beaverwood Club is a licensed venue, the BBC wanted to hold the actual wedding ceremony here as well. “Our outdoors gazebo will look just perfect” we thought. Well, kids being kids, they had other ideas. The theme was Disco Dance Fever, and on the day of filming, Beaverwood Place was rapidly transformed with a black and white dance floor, huge illuminated DANCE letters, and giant spin wheel. The mum and dad had no idea what was happening and even had to get changed blindfolded in separate rooms!
What was the reaction? You will just have to watch the episode – and don’t forget to look out for the guests doing a conga along Chislehurst High Street in their 70s outfits!
